Metaphors and the rest of Act I

We’ll finish Act I in class today the focus our attention on the metaphor.

A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes a subject by asserting that it is, on some point of comparison, the same as another otherwise unrelated object.

The plant in our play is a metaphor for the family’s well-being.  In Act I it’s not looking great.  Mama is watering it but it doesn’t get enough light in the window.  It’s also mentioned that it has a dreary view of the outside.  Mama would love to have a garden to plant it in.
